The history of the Hafen-Klub Hamburg

‚Associated with the port and the world‘ was the credo of the Hafen-Klub founded on July 16th, 1965.

The Hafen-Klub was founded at a time when the port companies, after 20 years of successful reconstruction work, were increasingly focusing on intensifying international customer contacts, which had also been largely destroyed by the Second World War. In the beginning the Hafen-Klub was primarily a forum for friendly encounters between port entrepreneurs and their European business friends. In the course of this development, the emphasis has shifted more and more to global relationships. This corresponds in particular to the self-image of the club anchored in the statutes, namely to promote understanding and relationships between its members as well as with domestic and foreign companies and their representatives. The clubhouse on the Landungsbrücken, which was opened in 1976, provides the right setting for the performance of these tasks.

With the so-called ‚Brückenhaus‘ (pier house) the unsightly gap between Landungsbrücken 4 and 5 could be closed in an architecturally impressive way. Since then, the port club has developed into an important center for international discussions and the strengthening of relationships with port companies far beyond national borders.

After 55 years of being a communication platform and business association, the Hafen-Klub Hamburg e.V. plays an outstanding role in the social life of the city of Hamburg.
